All the English in Action materials are written and designed by our academic team in collaboration with our teachers. Our teachers may also supplement the English in Action courses with material of their own, or material designed by other publishers.
How do I decide which is the right course for my students ?
The website and our brochure both provide detailed information about what age the students should be and what level of English they should have in order to do each programme. If you are not certain, contact our academic team for advice on suitable courses.
Can I request particular topics or activities to be included in the programme ?
Yes you can! Our programmes are designed to be flexible so that your ideas can be incorporated. When you send in your booking, please note any special requests on your form, and one of our academic team will contact you to discuss them.
Why do the courses have codes such as A1, A2 and B1 next to them ?
These codes denote the Common European Framework (CEF) levels. Please click here for further information.
What is the Common European Framework ?
The Common European Framework (CEF) is a document produced by the Council of Europe and is designed to establish a common framework for assessing language ability across different languages and cultures. It is now used by many ministries of education, local education authorities, educational institutions, teachers’ associations and publishers around the world. Please click here for further information.
What if I want a course that is longer or shorter than a week ?
We always do our best to accommodate individual school requests, and sometimes tailor our programmes to be shorter or longer than the standard 5 days. Please contact us before sending your booking form to check whether your request is viable.
Can you supply our school with a teacher for long period, for example six months or a year?
We do not usually provide teachers for extended contracts of over 4 weeks. We suggest you contact a teacher recruitment agency.
Do you do courses for adults ?
Although most of our work is in schools, we also offer courses for businesses, further education colleges or universities. We can also provide courses for teachers or parents in schools.
Do you do teacher development programmes ?
We offer a range of teacher development programmes which can be tailored to the individual needs of the teachers involved. Please note that we do not offer accredited TEFL courses such as the Cambridge CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL.
Can our teachers observe the classes?
We are very happy for teachers to come in and watch the EIA lessons, however we do have a few guidelines:
1)
2)
3)
If you have any feedback about the lesson you have observed, our teachers are happy to receive this in the break after the lesson or later in the day.
Can parents observe the classes?
We do not advise parental observations during the week as this can be very distracting for both students and teacher. However, an ‘open lesson’ can be arranged for the last day of the course, either instead of or attached to the show.
What is your discipline policy?
As our teachers are guests in the school and unfamiliar with the discipline procedures practised there, we ask the Contact Teacher for their support in dealing with serious or persistent bad behaviour. In such cases our teachers will report the behaviour to the EIA Senior Teacher who will then come to the Contact Teacher for advice or to pass the matter over for standard school sanctions to be applied. With younger children, or classes that are known to be badly behaved, it can be beneficial for the Contact Teacher to speak to the students at the beginning of the course to make it clear that normal school rules and sanctions still apply.
What is the minimum class size ?
The recommended minimum class size is 10. Class sizes in Europe are between 10 and 15 and in other countries, depending on local conditions, between 15 and 25.
Observations should not be the first day of the course; this is to allow time for our teacher to build up a rapport with the group and for the students to relax about speaking English. Preferably observations should be from Wednesday onwards.
Please let the EIA teachers know in advance (preferably the day before) when you will be coming to the lesson.
We respectfully ask teachers to remain inconspicuous during the lesson, and not to take over from the EIA teacher or distract the students.
