This course has been designed for students who are in the early years of their secondary education. Typically, they will have been learning English for 6 months or more. They will be able to use a limited range of functional phrases and will be starting to build a small vocabulary in key topic areas.
The course gives students the experience of communicating successfully in English with a native speaker, often for the first time. There is also the chance to use English collaboratively with their peers through the many varied games and activities. Students quickly come to realise that the real value of language learning lies in being able to apply their knowledge and skills to exchange ideas and information – and that this is possible even with limited language.
During the course students will consolidate and develop word-level vocabulary groups and learn an extended range of useful phrases. In addition to providing a focus for the course activities, the workbook incorporates many pages intended to function like a ‘picture dictionary’ to provide an invaluable learning resource long after the course has finished.
This course is a great confidence-builder for students who have only recently begun to learn English in a more systematic way. It aims to provide a foundation for learners’ communication skills in English and to leave them with a positive attitude that they will carry forward into their regular classes.
