This is a general communication course with ‘light touch’ business and tourism elements, developed for students in the middle or later years of general secondary or vocational school. It is aimed at learners who are interested in brushing up their speaking skills in general English, but who would also like some business-based and tourism-based communication elements. It can be a timely preparation for students’ oral examinations, such as that taken by 3rd year Austrian BHAS students.
Learners practise their general communication skills with a range of topics taken from everyday life and from the fields of business and tourism. They engage in a variety of communicative tasks, including role-plays, interviews and discussions.
This course was initially put together, on request, for learners who wanted a slight shift in focus away from general English, without needing a course that was exclusively business or tourism related. Since then, it has proved to be a popular choice for students who are interested in broadening their language practice to include slightly more diverse elements.

Please note: Business Booster comprises selected lessons from three other EIA programmes: Threshold, Business Communication Skills and English for Leisure and Tourism.
This programme can be tailored especially for students doing oral exams at vocational school, with an optional ‘exam skills’ lesson each day. This provides students with intensive practice in summarising, predicting and fielding questions, giving personal views and using appropriate functional language in real-life scenarios. There is also the option of conducting mock exams on an informal basis.
