Our Effectiveness course is suitable for students in the upper years of their secondary education, who have been studying English for four years or more. Students at this level will be able to communicate with confidence and fluency on most non-specialist topics. They will be able to use the language for a range of purposes, including social, academic and professional.
This is a high level course, with the focus on using language in a variety of situations, employing an extensive range of structures and vocabulary. There is an emphasis on exploring style in language, both written and spoken, in terms of formality, genre and mode of communication.
The course will examine the way in which language is used in poetry, criticism, song lyrics, journalism and in formal debate. There is an opportunity to work on more formal English in preparation for the end of course presentation.
This is an ideal course for students who want to hone their English skills through exploring subtleties of style and content, implications and inference, and who would like to develop aspects of textual coherence and cohesion in their spoken and written English.
